Melissa Gallo

Melissa Gallo started her painting career before the word “digital” even existed. As a paperback romance illustrator, she worked for several publishing companies includeing Warner Books, Avon Books and Harlequin. Coming from a family of both painters and photographers, eventually she fell into the field of photography and launched her company Melissa Gallo Photography about 6 years ago.

Along the way, she observed the art of digital painting grow and blossom. Not believing that work done on a computer could ever imitate real oil paintings successfully, she was stunned by a digital painting that she saw in a magazine. She could not tell it apart from the real thing!

That was when she decided to try her hand at the new medium, and has been in love ever since with itʼs glorious possibilities and versatility. Mistakes can be eliminated by the click of a mouse or graphics pen and if you like, you can change the entire color of your painting. The possibilities are endless....

Now, Melissa works in Corel painter 11 and Photoshop to create what she calls her “digitally mastered” oil paintings. Though one might go down many roads in this venture, she has chosen to imitate the classic oil portrait in her work. Her idol is John
Singer Sargent, a superb water colorist and oil painter of the 19th century, whose technique she seeks to replicate digitally. She insists that creating a beautiful painting, even in the digital age, still requires a knowledge of good composition,
draughtsmanship and color. All these aspects lead the viewerʼs eye to the focal points that you as the artist, chose. Melissa is the proud mother of 5 children and now resides at home with her husband and the 2 youngest, in central Florida.
